Cheesefest' 08!

In High school my friends and I had a cheese party. It was mostly just a joke, but it was a lot of fun, so we keep doing it, every six months. This is the 11th year. I was asked to design a tee-shirt for the occasion.

Woven shirt

New approach

I'm trying a more photographic approach. Took some photos of my hands and face for sketching reference. A little photoshop later...

I would love to see these silkscreened on a dark charcoal paper.

Zeus 'stache

I decided that this guy need hair. Or at least the top of a head. It ended up looking like one of my college professors. I used his image once for a school project about the book 1984. He was Big Brother.

One more

I gotta sketch...

Oh Captain, my Captain

Another sketch. This time with color.

More sketching...

I've been using my train time to draw. It tends to be a bit bumpy, which I've learned to work around, and sometimes with. The end results are pretty loose and sloppy. Like eating spaghetti-O's out of the can, in zero gravity.

The Blue Angel

One year ago I purchased an old 12 speed road bike. I've purchases about 8 since then, but this one is different. I kept this one. I don't even know what kind of bike it is. could be a Schwinn or a Cinelli. But, this one became my baby. I've put hours into it. I sanded it down and painted it. I put hot new wheels on it. I've replace almost every major and minor component on this thing. I've stripped it down to it's purest form. Oh yeah. That's right. It's now a single speed, fixed gear, silent but deadly, killer street machine.

It earned the knickname "The Blue Angel" at the office, which I have embraced and worked into a logo and logotype.

I've got some before and afters for your enjoyment:

Just for Kicks

I've been feeling uninspired for a few months now, and I don't like that. I decided to start drawing more. I wanted to try some things that I've never done, to branch out. I get hung up on design having to be meaningful and to accomplish a specific goal in communication. So my specific goal for this project is to be ridiculous and whimsical. I also get hung up on the execution part of the creative process. My natural approach is a very clean and refined approach (see previous posts about Root Design Build). Not that there's anything wrong with that. I just wanted to be able to do more than just that. The results of these experiments turned into a few t-shirt designs and a bunch of weird sketches. My inspiration came from talking with Tyson Schenk about some tee's he's working on. It's a brand called Woven, of his creation.

If you're reading this post, let me know if you would wear these shirts. Or not. And in 200 words or less, why or why not. Thank you!
